Why?…Kaya Hill graduated from Ball State University in 2022 with a Bachelor’s in Communication Studies and two minors in history and African American studies. Since then, Kaya moved to Florida to work in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and continue studying various aspects of African-American History and Critical Race Theory.Kaya shares her story, including the impact of finding “more” in her college experience (despite not planning on going to college) and the importance of understanding the many stories of our history so we can do better in the future. Kaya and Abbie discuss Kaya’s view of a better social world through the lens of “honesty” and “dishonesty.” Kaya talks about the need to ask “why?” about everything, the gaps in our American history around the experiences of black people, and the value of context in the way we talk about history. Finally, Abbie and Kaya question the moral behind the saying “curiosity killed the cat” and how it’s really complacency that kills and curiosity that opens doors to new ways of being.…Stories Lived.
