Being Intentional with Lainie Petersen

from Sacramental Whine · host David Oliver Kling

In this episode, I had the honor of interviewing: Bishop Lainie Petersen, who is the Presiding Bishop of The Open Rite. She was ordained to the priesthood in 1998 and was elevated to the episcopacy in 2009. She holds an M.Div. and M.T.S. degrees from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary as well as a Master of Library and Information Studies from Dominican University. She offers a candle ministry and has set thousands of lights for people over the years. She has previously served as co-host for several radio shows and podcasts, including Talk Gnosis, Magic Radio Chicago, and Hard Lens Media. She is currently the theater correspondent for Playtime, which can be heard every Sunday afternoon on WCGO 1580AM in the Chicago area. In this episode, we talk about several things including: Her elevator speech? How she describes the Independent Sacramental Movement to someone with no knowledge of the movement. We discuss her jurisdiction, The Open Rite. And the story behind its evolution. We discuss her academic research on women in Pentecostalism. She talks about her Candle Ministry and how it has grown. We explore her challenges as a bishop. And finally, she talks about her most memorable blessing within ministry. This episode is sponsored in part by Convergent Streams: The Premier ISM Magazine.  If you haven't checked out Convergent Streams I encourage you to do so, why?  Because it's a great publication AND when you support Convergent Streams you are supporting a ministry within the Independent Sacramental Movement.  How can you go wrong with that?  Check it out at convergentstreams.org.  I like the print copy, but you can also get it in ebook format.  Links: Bishop Lainie Petersen's website/blog. Mystical City of God, Volume 3 by Venerable María de Jesús de Ágreda Loyal Books The Mystical City of God is a book written in the 17th-century by the Franciscan nun, Venerable Mary of Jesus of Ágreda.According to María de Ágreda, the book was to a considerable extent dictated to her by the Blessed Virgin Mary and regarded the life of the Virgin Mary and the divine plan for creation and the salvation of souls. The work alternates between descriptions of the Trinity, the Virgin Mary's life, and the spiritual guidance she provides to the author, by whom her words were reproduced for the spiritual benefit and growth of the reader. The book describes at length the various virtues, and how the reader should live in order to see them reflected in their own life, with the Virgin Mary as their model for sanctity. The work has the Imprimatur of several Popes and Bishops and appeals primarily to those who believe in “private revelation” and the sanctity of Mary. Volume 3 deals with the Life of Blessed Mother after her return from Egypt. "The Sacramental Mysteries of th
