Welcome to the tweet trends podcast. Hey, what's trending today? Hey, I mean, hey girl and you are tuned in to It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today Hey there, welcome back to tweet trends. Let's talk about being overlooked.

Let's get started Okay, let me paint a picture for you real quick Let's say you are in some type of venue and you are doing some type of performance You are doing something in front of a group of people and you know that there's a group of people there You get to the end of whatever it is that you're doing and you are in your head doing a little dance You are patting yourself on the back you like girl. You did that Oh my gosh, and you go to turn around to receive your standing ovation and There's nobody there and you like wait a minute I know there were people here What's going on and then you look off to the side and you see that same group that was there for you has since moved over to The next person and they are all over them like oh my gosh Oh my gosh, and you're sitting there like wait a minute is mercury and retrograde or something This has got to be an optical illusion because I know I just did that and nobody is over here checking for me But they over there checking for her seriously So that feeling right there of being overlooked That's a serious feeling because especially when you know that you did a great job at something and Not that you should expect to get praise all the time But there should be some some point in the day or in your life where somebody says you know what you did a great job They're like hey, yeah, you go girl. Well, there were two situations last week that I saw that stood out like a sore thumb Where there were females and it just happens to be that they were all black females that in my opinion were overlooked and It made me feel some type of way the the one that happened second as far as the timeline goes, you know It is what it is. I know I understand where that one came from But the first one that I saw man that one hurt me to my heart so I'm gonna talk about those two situations today Let's start with the pre-fontaine classic now Everybody has been talking about this has been the big buzz ever since it happened and even before it happened because of course of Chicago Richardson she had her traumatic situation leading into the Olympics not being able to perform there and then now Don't call it a comeback.

Basically. I looked at how she was kind of coming at everybody like I saw her on TikTok And although it was a Nicki Minaj lip sync It was almost like an actual advertisement for the pre-fontaine saying you know watch out because here I come you know expect great things because I'm the greatest and We get to the race the ladies get set up in their blocks the gun goes off and And Chicago gets smoked now disclaimer Chicago was smoking any day of the week and You know, that's just what it is But on this day she was done now granted when they interviewed her she was like she's not done No in the grand scheme of things knows we are you're not done, but today you're done that that's it You know you came in last place. Let's get back to the drawing board Let's pull our team together and figure out our strategy for whatever comes next, but right now you're done So I said all that to say though that this particular race the women's 100 meter dash was swept by the Jamaicans and coming in first Was Elaine Thompson Hera and we all know the awesome stuff. She's been doing, but how come these ladies got overlooked a race was held There were winners and losers and the news media ran to the girl that came in last place did not talk to the winners But I get it.

It's about the money. It's about ratings. It's about TV and everybody making the most with the least You know so rather than go and talk to Elaine They went and talked to Chicago because one I think they knew they were gonna get a great sound bite Because she was gonna have to now either eat crow or she was gonna have to talk ish She was gonna have to do something to make up for all the stuff. She did leading up to the race So that's ratings right there.

You got people tuned in their ears are perked up and you know, we got to hear what you got to say Everybody tune in, you know, everybody look it up. Everybody go back to NBC's Website and watch it over and over again NBC is like hey bring it. Come on. Let's do this y'all Let's get the views up even more.

Yes But the bottom line for me was that these other women were overlooked They did the dang thing they got out there and they dusted the crowd and it's like they get to the end and turn around like yay Where is everybody well, they're crowded around Chicago. I mean whatever, you know, but it is what it is, right? Now this next story this one hit closer to home This one I felt internally I was crushed when I saw this and I don't know if it's because I could see my daughter in this situation But it was almost as if my body felt like it had been in that type of situation before and it took me back And I don't know I can't put my finger on what situation I had that was similar to this because I had never played soccer And I don't even really follow soccer like that So for me to see this and feel the way I felt about it It had any kind of wondering but let me just fill you in so there's this team called the Portland Thorns FC They're a professional women's soccer team here in the United States and they had a game last week against the Houston Dash They got to the end of the game and they were in a shootout type situation Trying to see who's gonna be the winner of this game and a young lady by the name of Simone Charlie black girl magic Hey She scored the winning goal for the Portland Thorns She was so excited like the emotion and expression on her face. She kicked the ball the goalie missed it It went in she's excited.

She goes running towards her teammates, right? Her teammates run past her Jump on their goalie and are celebrating with their goalie now granted their goalie What's her name Shelby Hogan? She had three saves during the shootout situation, right? So Shelby did her thing.

Yeah But to me the bottom line is though Simone made the goal that caused you guys to win in the end now granted It's a team effort everybody had to come together as a team to get the total number of points that they had in order to be in a position to win But this girl was excited and she went running towards her teammates. They ran past her So it's like she's running towards them. They run past her she doubles back and then goes and jumps in the pile with everybody else Hugging the goalie That crushed me and I know a part of it is because I could see my daughter in this My daughter is the one that wants to share with everybody She wants everybody to have a part a place something to do and I could see her in that situation kicking the winning goal and Thinking that everybody is going to be excited with her for her that she did a good thing and see that that attention is going somewhere else and She's going to then join in on what everybody else is doing because that's what she does It she's not gonna go off to the side and be all silky and sad like well gosh nobody even but mama bear would be in the stands like Yeah, we didn't go hungry, you know uncalled for right? I know but that thing hurt me to my heart But Simone was being overlooked by her teammates for whatever reason like not one teammate went to her Everyone went to the goalie so my mind.

I'm thinking well, maybe that's a soccer thing Maybe you don't congratulate the person that's making the goals you congratulate the goalie for what they did in a different situation You know, I don't know but what I do know is I didn't like either of these particular situations I didn't like seeing brown girls like me being treated a certain way I didn't like the fact that they were overlooked because I feel like so many times in society We do get overlooked and you know, you get overlooked for the rage you get overlooked for you know the opportunity and It's like nobody sees it but us They're like oblivious to it like what are you talking about? No? Oh my gosh? I'm here.

There's no way you can't see me Thank you so so so very much for joining me on today's episode You know this whole idea of being overlooked is very near and dear to my heart because I know that I've felt some type of way at times When I know I did a good job and I'm really confused like well gosh nobody thought that this was pretty good And you know I could say to myself I can try to boost myself up But if you're doing something for the common good for other people You kind of expect other people to be able to chime in with you and say hey good job I saw what you did there. Hey nice work kudos thumbs up smile something Don't always expect other people to pour into your life and that you don't have to pour into theirs because honestly, you know People might say oh gosh, but you know, I'm so busy You know, it does not take but two seconds to say hey you did a good job and keep it moving You know and the fact that by you pouring into somebody else's life You're probably going to trigger something in them. That's going to make them smile It's gonna make them feel good It's gonna probably increase their productivity and their creativity and all sorts of other things and to say that you had a hand in that That should make you feel good and make your day go even better But let me step off on my soapbox because I can talk about this all day instead How about hit me up on twitter instagram facebook youtube at he that's at hy E V E T T E or just look for the hashtag tweet trends and we can chat about it there Okay, have a great rest of your day.
