Being The Abuser

from The Art Of Giving Up · host The Art Of Giving Up

Episode Notes This week I am joined by  Astrid Crowley. Emotional and physical abuse are common, and not just in romantic relationships. In fact while recording and preparing for this episode I had a hard time coming across any real statistics that break down abuse across all categories. Looking only at the National Statistics Domestic Violence Fact Sheet however shows us a few things. • 48.4% of women and 48.8% of men have experienced at least one psychologically aggressive behavior by an intimate partner. • 4 in 10 women and 4 in 10 men have experienced at least one form of coercive control by an intimate partner in their lifetime. • 17.9% of women have experienced a situation where an intimate partner tried to keep them from seeing family and friends. • 18.7% of women have experienced threats of physical harm by an intimate partner. • 95% of men who physically abuse their intimate partners also psychologically abuse them. • Women who earn 65% or more of their households’ income are more likely to be psychologically abused than women who learn less than 65% of their households’ income. These statistics reflect only a portion of what we understand about emotional abuse. It is rampant and needs to stop. Understanding how easy it is to become the abuser is just a first step in stopping this trend. **This is The Art Of Giving Up iTunes: bit.ly/GivingUpPodcast Direct Link: http://bit.ly/BeingTheAbuser Music Provided by *Conversing with Oceans www.conversingwithoceans.com Twitter: @CwOMusic Spotify: bit.ly/ConversingwithOCEANS My Links: Twitter- Bit.ly/GivingUpTwitter Instagram- Bit.ly/GivingUpInstagram Find out more at https://the-art-of-giving-up.pinecast.co This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
