Being The Children’s Champion - Action Amanda (Amanda Frolich)
from The Mandala Effect Podcast · host Roseanna Croft
Action Amanda aka Amanda Frolich is a children's champion and her mission is to teach children in the early childhood years how to be healthy and fit. She does this through props, music, dancing and a whole load of fun. She is passionate about her concept because getting the kids at a foundational level, sets them up for success in later years. In this episode, we talk about Action Amanda’s 30-year legacy and all the things she still wants to do. KEY TAKEAWAYS COVERED IN THE PODCAST Action Amanda is full of energy which she attributes to 30 years of keeping healthy. Even from when she left school, Amanda knew she was passionate about staying active, so her first job was working as a recreational assistant at a leisure centre where she worked her way up to be assistant manager. But she was offered a course in 1991 which focused on teaching preschoolers and she knew she would love it and it was called Action Kids. She started doing her classes and people were bringing their kids but she knew/felt something was missing. One day she was in Ikea and saw some bunny rabbit ears and inspiration hit. And this is where the concept was born, working with props, music and dance to teach the kids how to be healthy and fit in a fun way. Through parents attending her classes she was also asked to do the same thing at kids birthday parties and events and even for notable celebrities which started with Victoria and David Beckham and although she became known as a ‘celebrity entertainer’, her passion was always educating children and Action Amanda has grown from there. She has an app where kids can watch her videos if they’re not able to attend her classes, songs like ‘Wash your hands’ that encourage children to be healthy and finally she has an animation show coming. Legacy for Amanda is being remembered for doing something wonderful and showing up and shining for other people. She wants to be the female role model and be known for making children happy and healthy around the world. For her 50th birthday, her two best friends from childhood gave her a necklace that had more meaning than the friends realised. The pendant says “It’s good to be happy” and has a little A on it and Amanda’s surname is Frolich which means happy jolly in German and the sentiments blew Amanda away and she treasures it. Her engagement ring is another piece that she treasures. It was handmade in Turkey and she helped design. Amanda also loves her watches and it’s a piece that works well for her because she’s in tracksuits 7 days a week. She has two that she wears. One is a watch she bought for her husband and when he outgrew it, she had it resized for herself because she loves it so much, and she has another one that her husband bought for her. She also had stud earrings which are her Action Amanda trademark. Her advice about living a meaningful life is to look after your body as you only get one life. Spend time with your family, have a good work-life balance. And if you have a gift, go out there and don’t hold back. Don’t live in what if’s. Take life's opportunities. Say yes and work out how to do it afterwards.
