Being Your Own Advocate in Healthcare

from Holly Logan Health Podcast · host Holly Logan

Having the education and experience, it’s “easy” for me to be an advocate for myself and my kids, right? Like when I want to do a specific test or know more about their chronic symptoms, I know the questions to ask, right? Yes, and no… I know what to say and what to ask, but I also have dealt with my fair share of push back. And I don’t know everything. But any time I go into an appointment for my kids or myself, I try to be organized and lead with empathy and respect, and also understand the limitations of our healthcare system. Oh, and find patience. Lots of patience. I hope you find today’s episode about being your family’s advocate insightful into the limitations of being a healthcare provider today, and also tips to getting organized for your appointment for chronic symptoms. The hard truth is also that things take time to find answers, and a lot of the work, starts with you! DISCLAIMER: As a reminder, I am not your healthcare provider and I am not a licensed counselor. None of this is medical advice or mental health advice. Seek care with your trusted healthcare professional for individual questions or concerns.
