Our gifts and contributions have gone overlooked and have even sometimes been denied. Perhaps others define us by our past mistakes, misjudgments and failures. Perhaps we are remembered for the worst moments in our lives. We must learn from the past, but we must also not allow ourselves to be defined by it. We certainly must not define ourselves by our past. Instead we should take the words of Amazing Grace as our life’s ethos. “I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind but now I see.”We don’t need to internalize anything negative someone has to say about us even if it used to be true.
