Belly Up to the Bar RRR Show #1215 October 29, 2023

from Rapidly Rotating Records · host Glenn Robison

Vera Guilaroff Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t not tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s. Do you know who this lady is? She’s Canadian pianist Vera Guilaroff, known as “Canada’s Melody Girl” and the “Princess of the Radio.” In addition to a medley of film hits recorded in London in 1937, you’ll hear one of her early Canadian records. We’ll also have a birthday salute for composer James Cavanaugh. Bandleader Sammy Stewart gets his own segment this week, but not necessarily a birthday salute, since we don’t know his actual date of birth. In other segments, we’ll belly up to the bar and call ’em as we see ’em. There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era. Click on the player above to listen streaming online and/or download for listening at your convenience. THANK YOU FOR LISTENINGENJOY THE SHOW!
