Ben's Story

Ben, 28, from Portsmouth South wanted to become a teacher and help tackle classroom shortages across the South East. He had the qualifications and passion, but hit a wall when the Department for Education cut training bursaries for his subject area. The classrooms were there, graduates ready to teach were there, but Treasury spending rules forced education departments to compete for artificial budget caps rather than connecting willing teachers with schools that desperately needed them. Ben's story exposes how central government creates teacher shortages through political choices, not resource constraints.
