Bent Ears- E=MT2
from Bent Ears Audio Laboratories · host Tom
The first application of the Virtual Moog Modular synthesizer. As much as I'd like to have a real Moog Modular in my studio, I don't have the 30,000 odd dollars to buy one of the 100-odd remaining original ones left in the world- or the room in my studio for that matter- so I'll have to settle with a soft synth version. Anyway, this was a 4 track project as usual mixed down to standard stereo. The Moog and Halo were played together on track 1 with all the various wind and chime effects on tracks 2 thru 4. The Modular was playing the sequencer while the Halo was used for the piano/strings as well as the wind chimes, bird sounds and other SFX. The title E=MT2 is based on the concept of the "Zero-Point Energy" theory - in that there is a quantum foam at the smallest scale of existance (10 to the minus 42 power cm) that could, if properly tapped, provide an unlimited energy source by harnessing the flow of time itself. Arthur C. Clarke used this concept as the main source of power in the ships described in his book THE SONGS OF DISTANT EARTH, and Isaac Asimov used a similar concept which he called the "electron pump". At the time he wrote THE GODS THEMSELVES, the theory of zero point energy hadn't even been proposed!
