When gangster Dutch Schultz needed a safe place to bury a steel safe with gold, diamonds,and bonds valuing over $150 million, he and his driver Lulu Rosencrantz headed for the little town of Phoenicia, and finding a good spot next to Esopus Creek- that's where he left it. Soon after, he and Lulu were killed in a hit ordered by Lucky Luciano. But a police stenographer was with Dutch as he was dying, and his last words sounded pretty convincing.
