(20:00) Vinnie asks Tim about Harvey and Banting (from 1862)--who they are and why they are important in health history. (26:20) They also chat about what changed in the 1950s, Ancel Keys' studies, and dietary guidelines. Tim mentions the little-known fact about Ancel Keys near the end of his life. (31:30) The conversation then turns to the "China Study" and why it's a good example of bad information. (32:15) This leads to talking about cholesterol and saturated fats and why Total LDL is not a real indicator of heart attack risk. (34:00) They chat about the importance of getting a calcium score. As a result, they also discuss how blood sugar plays a part. They discuss a bit about the question: if we have all the conclusive studies, why aren't changes happening faster? (40:00) Big Pharma plays a huge part by wielding its influence. INSULIN RESISTANCE & SUGAR ADDICTION They then get into insulin resistance: what it is and how it works (or doesn't). (43:30) Diabetes, hypertension, and other illnesses all have insulin resistance in common. (48:00) Sugar addiction is a real thing. Also: why are dietitians resistance to change? They also discuss ketosis, athletic performance, and "sugar trickling." (57:55) The trio discusses dairy, how it may affect weight loss, and what daily vitamins are helpful.
