Better Than Before: Remembering Regis

from Jane Wilkens Michael Better Than Before · host Jane & Laurie

Regis Philbin's list of accomplishments as infinite as his appeal was universal. And having known him over the years—for a while we even went to the same gym—I wanted to add my personal tribute to the avalanche of accolades that have come pouring in. Regis had a way of making everyone he met feel instantly at ease. While some stars are totally different in real life, his sense of humor and sincere warmth were exactly the same as his on-air persona. We all appreciated it, even those of us about to go through the grueling workouts of trainer Radu. When my first book, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner of Champions, was published, I was asked to appear on his morning talk show. (His beautiful wife Joy was his co-host that day, and the other guest was Danny DeVito.) Regis had wanted me to recreate the baked stuffed potato that a superstar athlete in my book had heralded for pregame dinners. I must admit I was a bit nervous. It certainly didn’t help when he said, albeit with a twinkle, “You better be good!” Right then the little red light went on and we were off and running. All went well with the interview. Until, that is, it was time to stuff the potato. Unfortunately, as I was putting in the cheese, it slipped out of my hand—and right into Regis’ shoe. Both Danny and Regis were overcome with hysteria. I, on the other hand, was mortified. But soon after I was laughing along with them. That was the kind of guy Regis was! You just couldn’t stay down around him.Not too long ago, I had the opportunity to have both Regis and Joy on MY show, which my producer, Laurie, decided to rerun below. He talked about his coronary bypass and what changes he made to his daily routine because of it. Alas, sometimes the powers that be have other plans and he was taken away from us way too soon. Suffice it to say, however, that he left the world a better place — and the heavens are shining infinitely brighter from his light.

The Professionals Infosys Knowledge Institute Lawyers, accountants, and consultants reveal their secrets to success and discuss future trends in The Professionals, an Infosys Knowledge Institute podcast. Hosted by Samad Masood, a former journalist and industry analyst with more than 20 years experience observing this dynamic and ever growing industry. Wounded Warriors of the Cross Gary Pastoral and clergy mental health is a mostly ignored area, especially by those who live their lives as pastors in the clergy. The stigma of mental health within those who serve in the shadow of the cross is something that invokes the stigma of fear. Many of those in the clergy will choose to suffer in their despair rather than reaching out for help. Sometimes those suffering choose to wait until it's too late to get the real help that they need. At Wounded Warriors of the Cross our mission is to lift the stigma and the veil of silence that encompasses clergy mental health and assist those who suffer in silence. Wounded Warriors of the Cross is here to shed the light of Christ's love into those dark places. NEWMORROW SESSIONS - A PodCast Series on the Future of Hospitality Mario C. Bauer, Florian Schneider, Axel Weber & Dr. Tillman Bardt The Newmorrow PodCast is more than a podcast — it's a platform for open dialog on the future of our business, a platform for those building what doesn’t exist yet. Here, we share and embrace our passion for the hospitality industry, but we won’t romanticize the journey. We ask the tough questions, confront uncomfortable truths, and prepare for a future that resists easy answers. We believe that the tougher and wilder times become, the more openly, honestly and humanely people need to talk to each other and act together. We believe, openness, togetherness, and truthfulness should also be cornerstones of a professional community to develop our utopian idea of „open source“. This is a space where visionaries don’t just imagine the future — they wrestle with the paradoxes that shape it: success vs. happiness, data vs. instinct, stability vs. reinvention. Join leaders, entrepreneurs, and thinkers as they share not what made them — but what’s actively shaping them, now and next.
