Beyond a Moralistic Golden Rule
from Sermon on the Mount · host Rev. Charles G. Dennison
Two common misreadings of the Golden Rule in 7:12 come from cutting the verse off from 7:7-11 just before it. The verse also ties back to 6:14-15's teaching on forgiveness. A moralistic reading and a redemptive-historical reading produce two different Golden Rules.
