Beyond words and noise: the life-changing power of vulnerable listening with Randall Alifano | Ep 137

from Into Your Life Podcast · host Into Your Life Podcast

In this thought-provoking episode, we explore the profound impact of true listening with therapist and author Dr. Randall Alifano. We dive into what it really means to listen “beyond words and noise” and discover how embracing vulnerable, intentional listening can transform not only our relationships but also our inner lives. Dr. Randall shares insights from his decades of experience on how listening deeply—with curiosity, humility, and presence—can reduce loneliness, heal emotional wounds, and foster genuine connection. Together, we unravel the barriers to meaningful listening, like ego, distractions, and social pressures, and learn how to create a safe space where others feel truly seen and heard. This  conversation will inspire you to approach listening as an act of love and empathy, opening up new possibilities for fulfilment and growth in all areas of life. 🧠 Dr. Randall Alifano has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and is an Ordained Minister with over 40 years of integrating psychology and spirituality in his private practice. Randall draws on his wealth of experience to provide practical guidance on how to get away from habituated patterns that inhibit listening with presence, empathy, and curiosity in his book, Listening in the Raw: Coming Home to Receptivity.  He has seen firsthand the transformative power of being heard, and he offers concrete examples of how Listening in the Raw can help deepen our relationships, enhance our personal growth, and end our accepted state of isolation. Randall is a drummer, percussionist, and co-founder of the musical collective, Tandamazi, inspiring dancers of all ages to listen to the beat of the drum and follow their feet on a rhythmic dancing path. On his days off he can be seen hiking the trails of Mt. Tam with his dog, Tuccio, and his beloved, Davida, traveling far and wide with his camera, cooking large pots of his grandma’s famous Bolognese sauce and creating the best lasagna in the universe.
