Bingham and firm Economic Development Consultant Larry Holt discuss NXP Semiconductor's incentive proposal before the city of Austin. BACKGROUND: 🔲 The Austin Council will take up final discussion and approval of NXP's application, under a Ch. 380 agreement, this Thursday (9.20.2023). 🔲 NXP's application, totaling $1 million (approx.) in incentives, is tied to it's larger pursuit of federal CHIPS and Science Act funding. 🔲 Passed in 2022, the CHIPS Act, dedicated billions of dollars to encourage investment in the U.S. semiconductor industry in part through tax credits and scientific research. 🔲 Companies pursuing CHIPS Act funding are required to have a local or state level funding match, such as a Chapter 380.
