The 1887 Civil War Monument on the Common says 385 soldiers served for Brattleboro and 31 died. After months of research, BAMS students and the historical society have identified 427 Civil War soldiers and sailors born here, living here, or substituting for those drafted from here. 55 died as a result of serving during the war. We believe our list, while more comprehensive, should also be considered incomplete.
