Now we're in Genesis chapter four, beginning at the first verse. At the beginning of the fourth chapter in the book of Genesis, Adam knows his wife intimately, and she conceives and gives birth to Adam's firstborn, Cain, and says, "I have gotten a man from the Lord!" Genesis 4:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord (KJV). The first man Adam who was made a living soul, sinned against God by breaking the commandment of God. And so, through this one man's sin, the whole creation was subjected to vanity under the law. But the second man Adam was made a quickening Spirit by whose death sanctification came to all that believe in the name of Jesus. However, because of the curse God had spoken to Adam, his firstborn son Cain would inherit the task of tilling the cursed ground. Because God would visit the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation. Numbers 14:18 The Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation (KJV). When the fathers sinned before grace and truth came, the children's teeth were set on edge. But knowing that a man cannot be justified by his works, it is evident that Cain's work would not be accepted as a sufficient sacrifice. Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified (KJV).
