from APEX Featuring Ian C Jordan · host APEX
Democratic presidential candidate Senator Kamala Harris of California says she believes her campaign isn't getting the attention it deserves because of race. In her interview with "Axios on HBO" Harris suggests the White House may be out of reach and refers to the question of her electability as the "elephant in the room." She wonders whether America is ready for a woman-- especially a woman of color-- to be President of the United States.Reminded that America was apparently ready for a man of color to be president, Harris responds by saying "this conversation (also) happened for him." She also recounts an incident while campaigning for Barack Obama in Iowa. She says she was asked to go to an African-American retirement home to encourage people there to vote for Obama, but the response she got from an elderly woman who answered the door shocked her. Harris claims that woman was fearful of more disappointment, when she said about Obama chances, "they're not going to let him win."Harris says she is facing similar attitudes among voters ahead of the 2020 election.
