Big Orange Sunday 07-12-26

In this week's episode of Big Orange Sunday, Coach  opens with heartfelt reflections on the recent Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Highlighting the inductions of Tennessee legends like Monica Abbott, Jason Witten, and the late Reggie Cobb, Matthews takes listeners on a nostalgic trip back to the dominant Vol football teams of the late '80s and early '90s. He shares behind-the-scenes stories of former players catching up and explores how the pride of wearing the Tennessee uniform remains a vital, yet sometimes overlooked, element in today’s landscape of the transfer portal and NIL deals. Shifting gears to the current gridiron, Coach delivers a comprehensive pre-fall camp evaluation of the Volunteers. With the season fast approaching, he breaks down the team's depth, praising the highly experienced kicking unit while identifying crucial areas for growth on defense. Drawing on his extensive defensive coordinator background, Coach  emphasizes the absolute necessity of developing rotational depth—particularly in the secondary and edge rusher positions—urging the coaching staff to force younger players into the game to get meaningful snaps early on. He also briefly touches on the offense's mix of a veteran offensive line and a highly-touted, yet inexperienced, young quarterback, setting the stage for a much deeper offensive breakdown in next week's episode.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
