Bilingualism in early years and education - what we all need to know and understand

Here the Beckies are delighted to be joined by Catherine a specialist in learning languages.We discover how babies and children learn to talk and how hearing more than one language is  so beneficial for their development.  Hearing a second language  for babies is completely  natural, when babies are under 12 months they can hear and responded innately.   The ability to build natural fluency happens in the early years. We discover why it is  much harder it is to learn a language as we get older?How do children learn to talk when their parents speak different languages and how beneficial is this for them? What does the term a second language really mean? The benefits from speaking more than one language as the child grows are huge, socially, emotionally, holistically and through their knowledge of understanding vocabulary.
