Now it's time for our year in review look back with our good friend bill crystal with the weekly standard what a year 2013 has been built Do we agree that 2013 really really stunk? I don't know The claims they can be because them will really expose in a way that the end of 2012 after about one reelection a lot of us And we're confident they would be a lot of their work on math I'm on policy so evidently now failing which is more than the country so good at the end of the year that you need it So if I'm a little more peace than I'm like well you mentioned for policy for example We are shocked shocked to learn bill that Syria will not be handing over the 500 million pounds or whatever was of chemical weapons on schedule I do understand that it hand over several bags of Sudafed apparently we've shut down Walter White's metal lab in Syria But that's about the best that the Kerry State Department was able to do But don't worry to run it'll give them up because the herd we're gonna have connections for air I mean it really I get that you know we call well getting I'm gonna be able to do things that the Obama administration do what you put together the defense top the And now to deal with a lot which of course those issues while we Washington can collapse with you put all that together. It's dangerous world out there and that is working on that I mean people about it that really is working for Obama's president for a year They'd be John Kerry position and of the main test one way and that is our politics I'm going to try to prevent that through too much I think it's about the coffee to go on the offensive and roll back and make some bill advances I think we're going to call people one area But you know we all like with much of going to go to the wrong way around the world totally loose now Well, you know, you're looking forward to the rising force of Oman in the region to be a peacemaker They really reach the best body back to what's happening back here in the United States There's an argument made that 2013 was the low point for Obamacare and then in 2014 what happens is the money starts really flowing And gushing out and people will be taking their health care buckets up to the spigot And they'll be carrying away their subsidized care and this is when it turns around in the Democrats will be riding Obamacare to victory in 2014 What do you think I don't think that I think that's a lot of us forget that for all I mean, right? We believe that it's not going to work well that the previous sticker shock is going to be there The upper doctor's gonna be there.
I like to then recall that it's a big good. It's going to be very damaging I may continue to make the case against the obvious only because the administration's gonna map the huge private campus They will be individuals and families will obviously by the top of the institution be complaining about it It's not a matter of the numbers responding up the quality of health care about issues matter of long-term reform I think it's a real Republican to be on the offensive on this issue in Congress and look how people speak for Obamacare and then really laying out You can serve because more important than ever I know it was saying. No, no, this isn't the time Obamacare look bad But I think you got a problem about the public was you know, I would be if there's no alternative people can say, okay Yeah, that's enough. I guess that's the best way.
You got to get the offer that that's key for property I agree with you And what's interesting is you could take the damage of Obamacare right now and morph into something that would actually work a national Catastropic care system and then free markets for everything else and you can actually end up in a really positive place if you have people making the case And that's what I think is so distressing about 2013 is that as things were falling apart How badly that advocates of small government have done at making their case and when you do have someone making their case They choose awful moments like the pseudo filibuster by Ted Cruz bringing everything to a stop Do you agree with me that no matter what the Democrats hand Republicans the Republicans will turn around and use it to beat themselves in the head? I think they did a lot of that in 20 to make sure your best to make sure that complicated 2014 And I think the key is that much Republicans need to you know get furious about and going on the offensive and laying out In terms of our need not great and therefore the voters are gonna put us in and go out to be questioning controversial issues Which has been sort of last time we are the key party has to pivot a little bit from being a authentic and legitimate protest to a governing movement I think about it a little bit like Reagan 76 versus Reagan 1980 You know, it's 76 The process to get both the modern public establishment and against the government liberalism by 1980 Yeah, really governing again other leaders of the conservative wing of the public and part candidate out there What do you really need to go on the offensive but upon the derivative? I think it happened I think it matters like 2013 might be the year where parties are shot at each other 2014 both sides learn something and I want to sense that Obamacare for a second Well, we got you in 2013 and talk about some of your favorite stories of the year And I just want to give you a couple to to prime the pump I absolutely loved the and loving right now the story of the Russian ship stuck in the Antarctic ice right now And the based on the reporting this morning bill. There's the second ship that went to rescue them is also stuck in the ice trying to go rescue them This isn't an arctica in the summertime when the ice is at its lowest and of course They're there to prove global warming meanwhile five years ago this month Al Gore predicted that the North Pole would have no ice What's so ever would be completely gone?
So you have this to me this perfect image of the less arrogance and new count You know dedication to the counterfactual they simply don't care what the facts are on the ground whether it's market forces for delivering health care Or whether it's the fact we haven't had any warming on the planet since 1998 They just don't care But eventually just like Obama and the Obamacare fiasco and a ship full of global warming researchers and the Arctic ice The facts eventually surround them frees them and make them look like buffoons And I think it's a great metaphor for the current standing of the progressive left taking private plane and flying out there Help those poor people back on the show. They believe what he said. You know and he has some responsibility I should think to help them out of the predicament. It is a guy who struck by assuming about it It's a great moment I think that's nothing happening in 2013 the collapse of global warming as a dogma really accelerated in 2013 and you know Whatever the complicated truth of you know Weather cycle and how much warming either might have been earlier in the 20th century and 20th century now It's the table no warming what for almost a decade.
I guess I do think that people do have unfortunately a very good ignore reality Even when they did my bias repeatedly though, you know, they've been mud and felt the media I mean they don't continue to cut the big thing desperately. I guess I struck by the New York Times and Gaudy piece of the weekend I mean, that's not a conflict of liberalism just pushing its narrative and saying hey, you know We're right about everything. I'm going to desperately try to one bears an after an office talk about to move over the take one of And they don't wait a second company for your own I was sort of a weird complicated thing with a really the person to blame some Your guy who made some video that no one's in Yeah, I agree with you And the fact that they would go back and try to rewrite the facts that they've reported themselves on Benghazi the fact I'm going to go so far I mean look common sense tells you that when guys are moving into a building in a building in waves using military strategies to move From you know place to place and get each other's backs and then they have mortars and Rocket Propel grenades that's not a movie review gone wrong common sense tells you that and for the New York Times to ask us You know, we don't have to be experts not like global warming where you don't understand, you know, you know, whatever You atmosphere climate versus ground temperature blah blah blah normal people go. That's not a mob That's a planned attack in the left is standing right in our faces saying no, it's not no, it's not Obamacare's working right That wasn't a plan attack.
It's getting warmer. Forget the ship stuck in the ice. It doesn't matter. Just believe us And it's America's fault.
That's what strikes me about the times the company got in one thing to say I thought there's a genuine dispute about how much I'll kind of thoroughly planned it partly planned it Well, I'll find it out element dominant in the attack participating in the attack Those are you know, more and less than people who can see our argument on our website and that's something that the times is that no Great interest in looking into in detail, but they definitely want to blame blame the video always struck me One of the most striking things about the following two in 2013 They definitely want to blame America attack on America to kill America They want to find American culprit. They don't want to blame the people who did it They don't want to blame me but the above administration and the police department for obvious failures in the run up to the event Or the night at the event all of that is the secondary wasn't the video That's terribly revealing I think about contemporary Now one last thing before I've let you go because you don't have Bill crystal of the weekly standard without asking him about of course Arts movies and music you can't you can't do that and I actually thought you mentioned the duck dynasty thing I think the dynasty moment is a key moment because the bad guys the people who want to end the conversation lost regardless I feel about the Roberts and what he had to say the idea of ending the conversation saying you can't even be at the table of Conversation if you disagree on the issue of same sex relationships That was good and then also to go to film the movie gravity was a spectacular movie that used new technology was very cutting-edge Likewise, but it was also fundamentally kind of a traditional values movie of individual responsibility and sacrifice I thought those the fact that those are kind of the highlights of the 2013 media year or entertainment year I think are significant. I'm gonna go see gravity since you're just running this and I don't trust all the movie reviews But I'm gonna I should point out to everybody who's listening to the last movie I should get back in touch with the last movie that was dirty Harry, so I should point that out Yeah, that was good. I like the original.
I actually do everything that in a movie theater when it came out and it was such a stunning cultural moment I was also a mother there where I wasn't supposed to be in the thousandth way I do think that kind of thing and you know at the beginning of the puncturing of the success and of the credibility even of living Can you give us a headline from 2014 before it happens? Look into your crystal ball What headline will we read sometime next year since when the Senate and for the elections And I think we will see because of the failure of Obama to do anything Israel taking action to delay around super well and by action You don't mean canceling their subscription to scientific American.
