Binary System Podcast #150 - The BSP Mixtape

from Binary System Podcast Archive · host Binary System Podcast Archive

Original broadcast date November 1, 2018. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2018/11/binary-system-podcast-150-the-bsp-mixtape/ The title of this episode was almost "One hundred fifty episodes: still no plan" but we already used that fifty episodes ago. And we do have a plan, even if we thought it up an hour before the recording. Still counts! This week we're talking about music: the soundtracks that bring back all kinds of geeky nostalgia, or just inspire those kind of daydreams where you're on a badass rescue mission armed with only your wits and a pair of mechanical wings. (Or maybe you have real wings in this one. DRAGON wings....sorry, where we we?) We each pick three of our favorite songs or soundtracks, and then follow random paths that lead from Marvel movies and giant robots to Elfquest, Westworld, and possibly dragons. Thank you for listening in, whether you've heard 150 or just the one, we're glad you're here! Correction: we talked about that Paul Van Dyk song we finally tracked down, but completely forgot to say the name. It's Step Right On. Correction the second: we mentioned how Hannah and her friends choreographed a dance to that song. Then we said they sat around a campfire and someone had a recording of the song and they all did it around the fire. WE MEANT THEY DID THE DANCE. Get your heads out of the gutters. Correction the third: Kathryn said there were three major games being played in Los Angeles the weekend Elizabeth went up there. She was almost right. It was five. (The Dodgers, Rams, Clippers, Kings, and Galaxy. And apparently two guys made it to all of them.) http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-sports-bonanza-20181028-story.html Correction the fourth: No, Hannah hasn't seen Serenity. If you haven't either, spoilers are from 19:09 to 24:55 Correction the fifth: for the Westworld soundtrack http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-sports-bonanza-20181028-story.html Ramin Djawadi has done remixes of The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, The Cure, Soundgarden, The Animals, Amy Winehouse, and Nine Inch Nails, but not, as far as we know, Nickleback. Why Elizabeth thought anyone would remix a Nickleback song for a sci-fi soundtrack, we may never know. She sure doesn't. Correction the sixth (for crying out loud...): Regarding How to Train Your Dragon 3, we don't know why Kathryn talked about Hiccup doing a lyrebird dance for the Light Fury, when it was obviously Toothless that was doing the dance. Having Hiccup do it would be pretty damn funny though. This week's outro music is a clip from Beachclub by Michett. http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Michett/~/Beachclub
