Hi, I'm Megan Segura. And I'm Eric Day-Mac. And this is the Daily Dish, Bravo's official podcast. Today, we're going to be recapping a little bit of NYC Prep, a show from 2009.

There was a marathon on Friday, last Friday, on air. But you can also watch it on the Bravo app. Comment below, let me know if you guys watched NYC Prep, what you think about it, all that good stuff. I'm going to have my co-host, Meg Segura, join us in just a second.

There she is. Hello. Ooh, your hair's straight. What else am I going to do?

Because I've spent hours of time looking in the mirror and figuring out exactly what I hate about myself. Before we talk about NYC Prep, you know, this weekend it was Easter. Some people tell it if it has over. So, like, not a typical holiday weekend for most people, right?

But Danny and I did want to do a little bit of something to, like, recognize the holiday. So we hid some Easter eggs because we found some that we had last year. But I just want to show everyone the beautiful, like, gay Easter eggs that we use. I bought these at, like, a CVS, too.

Oh, I thought they were hand-painted. No, no, I'm not that talented. I love them. Upside down.

But, yes, we have some very gay Easter eggs, a very gay Easter basket, too. Thanks, Emily. Oh, I'm like, what's a glam? Hannah says tiger game.

Yep. Not a Bravo show, but should be. Maybe, you know? Not yet.

Just wait until Joe Exotic gets out of jail. Carole Baskin gets her own spinoff. Oh, I'm sorry. I just carried out my volume.

Oh, do you want to pen a little comment so people know what we're talking about? Oh, that's a great idea. Okay, let me just do that real quick. Guys, let us know if you've watched NYC Prep because that's what we're talking about today.

Yes. We need to talk about everything that happened. Also, where are they now? Mm-hmm.

Christy, yep. Oh, my God. Go to the Bravo app and binge it. Yes.

What do you mean you lost on what Shaws are fighting about? MJ and Reza, the biggest, did you not see the pool party episode? Yeah, that's something you've got to revisit if you haven't yet. Oh, it's so good this season.

I always listen to your podcast. So cool to see y'all. Do we look at what we think we look like? Because Eric and I talk about this all the time.

What do people think we look like? Right, that's come up a few times. Yeah. That's come up a few.

I think the first time it came up about me, which we thought was really funny, is that because I came on to the podcast doing the Erica Jane Moment of the Week segment, I think a lot of people thought that I looked like Mikey, but I don't. You know, you've said Ryan Gosling before. I see that. Right, thank you.

Okay, so where to begin? No, wait. I need some history. Was this your first time watching NYC Prep?

My first time watching NYC Prep. Was it yours also? No, I watched it when it was out. Okay, interesting.

So I feel like I'm very excited to hear your first reaction back in 2009. Oh, wait, yes. I did see. I just had to answer.

Did we see the cameo from Jill's daughter? Did you? I don't think so. She was at the, like, not finale party.

She had to make an emergency go to school. College? Do you mean? Stephen F.

Austin, Maccadosh, Texas. Unless they thought you went to one of the NYC Prep schools. Oh, my God. One time someone told me, you look like you're from Connecticut.

I was like, oh, man, why did he so much? I guess that's a compliment. I don't know. Okay, yes.

No, so I watched it when it was actually airing for the first time in 2009. But there's so much I didn't remember. Like, I remembered the Operation Smile because they mentioned it so many freaking times. How could we forget?

And I knew that, like, it definitely had the same sort of characters that Gossip Girl did. Because Gossip Girl premiered in 2007, so this came out in 2009. But what I want to know is, like, someone like Camille, the one with all the headbands and stuff, was she imitating Gossip Girl? Or did Gossip Girl, were they imitating, like, something that already existed?

I didn't grow up in New York, so I don't know. So in that, did you think that Camille, because to me, so I didn't watch the show originally, but I did watch Gossip Girl back in the day. Actually, right around 2009, that time. I didn't watch it when it first aired in 2007, but watched it in 2009.

And my college friends will tell you that I was obsessed with Gossip Girl. So I think, watching it back as an adult, I sort of assumed that Camille was, I don't want to say based on Blair Waldorf, but maybe Blair Waldorf was based on Camille. Right, like, who inspired, you know, who knows? Right, so, and definitely, PC was giving me a lot of Chuck Bass.

Yes. For sure. You know, so there was definitely some, you know, archetypes that were there. Yeah, that's true.

This house was a six. It feels like she was mimicking Gossip Girl because no one else was dressed like her. That's very true. That's a good point.

The style was a nod, I think. Also, I know that Camille mentioned that her school was all girls, and I know Ramona's daughter, Avery, went to an all-girl school in New York, and so I was like, oh, I wonder if it's the same one. Interesting. What's funny is that I was doing some, you know, additional research, having not watched the show prior, so looking up the Wikipedia page, and some of the things that I was coming across is that a lot of the prep schools did not want to be associated because they were just afraid of a reputation being harmed by anything that might come out on the show or whatever, so I'm very curious to know, but I think on Wikipedia it does break down which schools they went to.

Not that I know anything, you and neither one of us grew up here in New York, so I don't know anything about prep schools. Yeah, same. I would be very curious to know if after the show there was any, you know, repercussions for reputations or anything like that. I think one thing I missed my first time watching it that I definitely noticed this time around is it was sort of like they were dog whistling that PC had a drug problem, maybe?

Yes. Well, yeah, it was interesting, too, because in maybe the fourth or fifth episode, I think we see him go and talk to his therapist, which I think, you know, in high school when you're 18 and you're going through all sorts of things that any 18-year-old is going on, and you add the layer of having a lot of money and sort of access to anything because you have that much money. Housewives of SLC, yes, he was into drugs and possibly bisexual. I do remember, obviously, that coming out on the show, pun intended.

You know, he was pretty open at certain points in the therapy session about, you know, the access that he had to going to clubs, to drugs and alcohol and all that. And, I mean, I can't imagine growing up in New York City being that rich. Like, it's probably so easy to, you know, be able to abuse something like that. I mean, definitely.

It's interesting how I didn't really catch that the first time, but then it was kind of like everyone was upset because PC was able to stay out all night. Right. You know? Right.

I am curious, watching it, you know, for the first time in 2009, obviously you were closer to their age group at that time, and so maybe it didn't feel so far away from, you know, experience you had not too long ago. But for me watching it for the first time as an adult, I was like, these kids are up to no good. Like, what are these kids up to? You know?

Well, and Kelly's parents just did not care. Like, I mean, they really cared, but, like, they never knew where she was. They were always in the Hamptons while she was in the city. So she's like, I'd ground it, and then they would leave, so they wouldn't know the difference.

Right. My parents kept such close tabs on me. I couldn't do anything. Yeah.

I mean, she was totally, like, screening voice coaches, just, like, welcoming strangers into the home while she was there by herself. Obviously, a crew was there with her whatever, but still, I was just like, that would never, in most, like, suburban, rural communities, like, that's not how it goes. Like, unless your parents are out at work or whatever, but, like, you're not just left unattended when you're 15 or 16 years old. It's like watching the hills in Laguna Beach now.

Yeah. Especially because, I don't know, I feel like there is that aspirational quality, which, not that kids should be aspiring to what, like, they were doing, but, you know, it's just such a different kind of atmosphere to grow up in. Yeah. That they had to go to restaurants to hang out together.

There was, there's very few house parties and that sort of thing. To answer this, when we watched it, my kids were that age, it freaked me out. It's all about getting into the right school and all of that, but I did not think about that in the least when I was in high school. Yeah.

I definitely would have thought they were super cool and then, in turn, been intimidated by them if I were their age and, like, met them. Being from, like, a suburban place, I would have just been like, these city kids are way too cool for me, you know? Right. I also love that Jessie was so, like, uptight and very much about Operation Smile, and she, you know, talks to, like, this is a business, and she's a CEO, but, meanwhile, like, has a retainer.

It was just, it was just very hard to, it was very cringy to watch. And you said you didn't really dig the show. It was, it's hard to watch, I think, as an adult because you are just, like, watching children. Like, and there would be moments when even PC would refer to the other ladies on the show as, like, younger and, like, he was so much older.

He's 18 and they're 16 and 17, so it's not like he's that much older, you know? Like, he has all this wisdom over them or something. So it is weird, like, the dinner, I think, that Camille grows at her house at one point, and then they're talking about, like, well, let's talk about who's a virgin and who's not, and I'm just like, oh, no, no. Yeah, it was, like, a lot to think about.

I also wonder if Bravo did go after Jill Zarin's daughter or Ramona's daughter or Luann's daughter to be on the show. I mean, as a mom, I would never have signed off on that because you just know it's not going to age well. They're going to say all these things they regret and that make you look bad. Yeah, well, I mean, and to their defense, every time something cringeworthy did happen while I was watching it, I had to remind myself that I was once that age.

And I probably said some dumb things because when you are 18, sometimes you think you have it all figured out because you made it through high school, you know? And you're just like, oh, well, I did all this, so I know what's up. And then you realize much later on in your later 20s, like, oh, now I actually know what's happening. And I had no clue.

So there's a little bit of that, I think, that you have to remind yourself, especially re-watching. But there's a lot of people who are asking about where are they now. So we actually both ended up in our research preparation for this, finding the same New York Post article that was just published actually a couple days ago. Is that true?

Oh, interesting. Somewhere, Erin, I think Avery was kicked out of her school because of Ramona's show, so I wonder if she was eligible. I wasn't eligible for the show because of that. Yeah, we both ended up reading the same information about where they are now.

Camille's was the most kind of fat. Like, this girl worked nonstop and still didn't get into the school of her dreams. Harvard rejected her. But she's doing fine now.

She's, like, head of marketing or something. That's Airborne or something. Yeah, so she did not get into Harvard, but she attended the College of William & Mary in Virginia, graduated in 2014 with a degree in neuroscience. So, okay, she has the brains, and moved to California, works for a vegan wellness brand.

So there you go. She's fine. She also told Paper Magazine in 2014, I saw it like any other extracurricular activity. Like, okay, so I'm going to do lacrosse and also a TV show.

It's one way to look at it. Do you think any of them are happy they did the show? Here's why I asked. Not because I just felt like, it's like I can't go back and read any journal entry I've written because I'm just like, ugh.

Like, it just grosses me out to see myself at that age, you know? Oh, 100%. I mean, I did some due diligence not too long ago, a couple years back, and found my live journal, my mind fix, and deleted those from the internet. Like, zero access to that.

I mean, it might be archived somewhere, but... Eric, that makes me mad because genuinely I would like to hear you do dramatic readings of those live journal entries on the podcast. I can't even imagine. We should remind people, we're doing this because we are hosts on Bravo's Daily Dish podcast.

New episodes come out every Thursday anywhere you listen to podcasts, especially Spotify, because they've been promoting us and I really loved Kelly because I thought she was super cute and bubbly and also a very talented singer. Well, I knew you were going to be happy where she ended up. Of course. So after graduating from the new school, according to this New York Post article, Kelly had a single, Gave Up on Love in 2011, which went on Billboard's Breakout Hot Dance Club chart.

So there you go. We need to talk about the other boy on the show, Sebastian. Did we say that he started working for Watch It Happens Live or interning? Yes, he interned for Watch It Happens Live in 2013.

He went to school in Charleston, actually, according to this article, which I wonder if maybe he came across any of our Southern Charm people at that point. I think he was a guest bartender on Watch It Happens Live, too. That's how we knew that. He just got married last year as well.

So congratulations, Sebastian. That's also like, maybe it's just a connection to Cruel Intentions, but Sebastian is such an NYC prep name. You know? Well, I don't know if he's very French.

I don't know if you remember, but he could speak French. Right, of course. Taylor. Taylor's update is interesting, ladies and gentlemen.

According to this article, Taylor was only 15 in the show film and she's lived a private life since, not sharing any public updates. People are commenting that she's homeless. God. No information that actually makes me think that that's what's happening.

Well, let's hope not. And who have we missed? Have we missed anybody in their updates? Jessie is also married now.

Yeah, she's like an investment banker. Yes. I think she just got married last summer, officiated by her brother, Rabbi Noah. Leave it.

Leave it. Leave it. So PC is recently married also, I think, according to this article. I mean, he was definitely, he and Jessie were kind of the two main characters in a sense.

I feel like it was sort of centered around their friendship and then everyone else sort of played into that. But yeah, it says that he, oh, he tied the knot in Vegas in 2018 and Tiffany Trump attended their wedding. The forgotten Trump child. I don't know if the picture that I see on the New York Post article features him in Joker makeup.

So I'm hoping their wedding wasn't like Joker themed, but who knows? Teach them. So why don't we recap everyone too the shows that we have been so far in the last four weeks. So obviously we just did NYC prep and before that, Gallery Girls.

Yeah, so you liked Gallery Girls better. Oh God, yeah. I think I would rewatch Gallery Girls and I would be way more excited about like a season two or like a where are they now Gallery Girls situation, which somebody recently found a post from Chantel from Gallery Girls and she was like recording music somewhere on the other side of the world on this like remote island and her new music will be available soon. So very on brain, kind of thing for Chantel.

tell i just think it's interesting that you loved gallery girls and really did not like nyc prep because i think that they're very like nyc prep people grew up to be gallery girls right i think well i think the you know the brooklyn versus manhattan thing i think that element of gallery girls stood out to me more so than this this was so upper east side upper west side focused that it felt a little too specific for new york you know and i think gallery girls opened up a little bit more to be like here's the full story of like what it's like to live in new york you know oh i very in big i loved miami social i rarely hear updates on them that's on the app because i have a vague recollection of that show but i don't think it's one i actually watched at the time yeah that could be a good one to check out well speaking of miami uh one of our potential next binges is the real housewives of miami because there is a season three marathon coming up on friday oh one who wants to check that out and that's another one that i haven't seen yet you need to watch it we need to talk about it that could potentially be our next one but i know in a previous live that we have done there was a recommendation on ladies of london don't have princess 11 but why do you why do you miss that so we still have episodes every week even in quarantine we are getting it done yes check it out check it out it's so good and raw it's very true so maybe we should do miami okay joanna krupa is one of the most beautiful women i've ever seen so i love watching just for her face and she's just so beautiful yeah that is very true i wouldn't mind what am i checking that out and there's also like i have this weird relationship with miami where i've never been and i want to go but i've never really had the excuse to go so it just hasn't really happened i know right i mean after it's all said and done totally i mean i know like bronwyn has connections there like my friend robin used to live there's all these things that have like drawn me to miami but never actually brought me there so maybe watching real housewives of miami will inspire me to you know get through danny says you were on a layover there in february that is a good point we were on a layover there but like some of those things you don't need the airport you're like i'm in miami it wasn't a bravo show but did you ever watch eighth mean she lives on in these like crazy fun memes and so many of them around the quarantine too that i've seen so i'm obviously very excited to see her so in addition to the podcast we will have some more instagram lives coming up as well and can't say you know officially but there are some housewives that we'll probably be bringing on um we might be doing a live again this week from the bravo instagram handle so stay tuned for any promotion around that because we are looking to get some housewives involved potentially you know former bravo talent whoever wants to talk with us because everybody is kind of just hanging out sitting around looking to talk right now yeah especially us right this is all we do this all we know how to do is talk speaking of which if there are any real housewives of beverly hills fans on right now i interviewed teddy earlier today oh yeah how did that go it was really good because so we're not going to air that one for a couple of weeks yeah but she talked a lot about denise like she revealed more than i thought she would so i'm excited to hear that interesting well in this week's episode of the podcast the new one that's coming out on thursday i talked to erica dane as well and she did towards the end of the interview dish a little bit on what happened with denise and a little bit of her perspective on that situation so i mean i can't wait well do you guys have any other questions for us or anything you want to share anything that we should look forward to with real houses of miami because i can't wait to watch other than mama elsa and all the superstition or other shows you want us to binge we're gonna look i'm gonna look into miami social ladies of london we've been seeing a lot some southern charm comments so you guys let us know we are here for you yeah and i think there's actually a southern charm season one on air marathon coming up soon so that would be so good i mean imagine like remember those days remember cassie yes i
