Bite-Size Edition: The One Where She Talks About Ukraine & Feeling Your Feelings

from Unraveled & Unwritten

How are you doing? The past couple of days have been pretty intense and heavy with everything going on in Ukraine. And even if you don't know anyone who lives in the area, it's pretty much impossible to NOT be feeling something when you see so many innocent people impacted by one person's decision.I believe actions like these go far deeper than someone just being "an as*hole." I believe that many of us are so wounded inside and when we're not addressing those wounds, it can lead to ego and power trips like the one we're seeing play out at the expense of so many others. So many of us are hurting right now. And it's important to work through your feelings, not avoid them and stuff them down deep inside you. Or try to numb them out with food, drugs, alcohol...which is what many of us do when we have those feelings that don't make us feel so good.Feelings are really, not good OR bad. They just ARE. Feelings are telling us something about ourselves and if we actually stop and pay attention, we can give them the space they need, maybe learn from them, and then walk on through to the other side. And once we're on the other side, we're better equipped to make a difference in the world in our own unique way. Why? Because we allowed ourselves to feel what we were feeling, and thus...took care of ourselves. So we could then go out and be that Badass Ambassador of Love, Kindness or whatever your deal is. Because the world needs you. If you like this episode, or all my episodes, please share 'em and tag me, or text it to someone. If an episode resonates with you, I'd love to hear about it! BLOOD ON THE TRACKS Season 4: The Brian Wilson Story iHeartPodcasts and Double Elvis In 1966, Brian Wilson planned to follow up the Beach Boys' groundbreaking album Pet Sounds with an even bigger musical statement. He was writing a teenage symphony to God. That album, Smile, was never finished. Instead, Brian slowly unraveled, as the pressure to make something profound weighed heavy on him. He worried that he wasn’t good enough. He worried that he was a failure in the eyes of the record company, his band, his peers, and his own father. He thought his house was bugged. He thought the music he was making conjured some strange voodoo that had a disastrous impact on the real world. He became paranoid. He self-medicated with amphetamines, hash, and LSD. He held meetings in his swimming pool. He imagined people who weren’t there. And eventually, in 1967, he went off the proverbial deep end. Did the real Brian Wilson ever resurface? Hathaway robbed 30 banks in a single year, all within a 30-mile radius of his suburban home. But that’s not the most surprising part of this story. Before Hathaway was a masterful bank robber—a shape-shifting professional who confounded multiple police departments and the FBI—he was a top design engineer at Boeing, one of America’s most important companies. Hathaway traveled the world in business class, working on the 747, while hiding a gigantic secret: an OxyContin addiction that ultimately unraveled his life. Based on three years of conversations between Hathaway and journalist Josh Dean, Hooked is a different kind of crime story that takes listeners on an exceptional and very personal tour of America’s opioid epidemic.Hooked is an Apple Original podcast, produced by Campside Media.
