Black Christmas (1974)

from Booze, Bros, and BS Podcast · host Ben Kemple, and Michael Wolfe

On this special Christmas episode of Booze, Bros, & BS, Ben and Mike watch and discuss the other classic Bob Clark Christmas movie, Black Christmas. Released in 1974, and made in Canada, this film is considered by many to be the first slasher movie. They talk about the siilarity bewtween Black Christmas and John Carpenter's Halloween, and even share a story by Bob Clark about what he told Carpenter when he was asked if he'd considered making a sequel. The movie idea Clark shared with Carpenter turned out to be very similar to the plot of Halloween. The Booze Bros also discuss the controversy surrounding the film's premier on network TV in 1978, and it's eerie similarity to the Ted Bundy murders at that time, which contributed to the governor of Florida sucessfuly having the movie pulled from being shown on NBC in 3 states. Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. They also discuss the recent 50th Anniversary showings of Black Christmas across the US and Canada in Dec of 2024. Finally, the Booze Bros say a heartfelt goodbye to their close friend Sam, who passed away earlier in the month of Dec.   Corrections:Edmund O'Brien was the actor that John Saxon replaced as Lt. Fuller -- When a Stranger Calls was the movie mentioned as ripping off Black Christmas, not Stranger in the House, which was an alternate title of Black Christmas - Warner Bros. changed the title of Black Christmas because they were worried that it would be mistaken for a blackspoitation film. Which were popular at the time. -Find Booze, Bros, & BSOn X: https://x.com/BoozeBrosandBSOn Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/boozebrosandbs.bsky.socialOn Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/boozebrosandbs?igsh=MTJoaTMyOGwzc3hieQ==On Youtube: https://youtube.com/@boozebrosbs?si=yG-UQiCbnYn5l3O7Watch an original scanned 35mm print of Black Christmas with the original mono track here:https://youtu.be/QWhe-Mr71-8?si=ypW1_42g_5Ppr1pGFollow us on Instagram, X, and Bluesky: @BoozeBrosandBSSubscribe on YouTube: Booze Bros & BSYou can also find us on Facebook:https://m.facebook.com/@booze.bros.and.bs.podcast/
