Black Cinema

from Projektionen Kinogespräche · host Marcus Stiglegger, Benjamin Johann

What can BLACK CINEMA be? Julia Weigl (Filmfest München) and Sebastian are talking to two up-and-coming US-American directors: Merawi Gerima whose feature debut "Residue" celebrated its German premiere at Filmfest München and Skinner Myers who debuted his feature "The Sleeping Negro" at International Filmfestival Mannheim Heidelberg. Both filmmakers believe that making films has to be political. Where do they see themselves within the tradition of BLACK CINEMA? What has changed over the years? And how could we treat film more like a communal art form? A conversation about the film industry from the perspective of two African American artists.
