Black Food Sovereignty Toronto Chair Anan Lololi

Recorded on August 31, which has been designated by the United Nations as the International Day for People of African descent, host Sheree Williams connects with Canadian urban farmer Anan Lololi to talk about his work around Black food sovereignty in Toronto. Born and raised in Guyana, Anan moved to Toronto as a musician, playing for one of the city's top reggae groups, Truths & Right, before deciding to go back to school and study business. Anan soon found himself in the food world, founding Afri-Can FoodBasket in 1997 with a new passion for working to help create food-secure communities through an equity lens. He is now a research associate with Ryerson University's Centre for Studies in Food Security, the chair of Toronto's Black Food Sovereignty Working Group and launched an international food sovereignty initiative in his home country of Guyana.
