Black History Month

February has become known in the US and Canada as Black History Month, an initiative that dates back to 1926, aiming at highlighting and commemorating important events and influential individuals in African history. In this weeks show, we will discuss how history writing has created the images we have of Africa today and how Africa and the African diaspora is represented in culture and entertainment. You will hear Aaisha Keita tell us her reflections on how black history month was celebrated in the US Embassy in Gambia and Lovisa Prage spoke to Josette Bushell-Mingo, from the swedish National Theatre and the film organisation CinemAfrica.
