Black History Month message from Gin Hammond

When I think about Black History Month, I am excited.That’s so many different stories are are coming to light. Black folks of all hues to I’ve been seeing that more and more and I’ve been appreciating how there are definitely people out there who are trying to step away from the idea of blackness as a monolith.And it always immediately makes me think of what it was like when I was a kid. And you know, we’d be, you know, listening to the “I Have a Dream” speech together. And I’m thinking of the black and white TV we had on top of the fridge in the kitchen.And how I always wanted to cry when I heard that and not understanding why. And I think part of it also has to do with what I understand now about how much kids Absorb from their parents without even the parents saying anything.And I think I was just, especially from my dad, just taking in these waves of emotion.
