Black Maple Hill Oregon Straight Rye Whiskey | Speakeasy Bourbon Club Review & Tasting

from Birdies & Bourbon · host Birdies & Bourbon

Black Maple Hill Oregon Straight Rye Whiskey | Speakeasy Bourbon Club Review & Tasting   Disclaimer, this is not the original BMH that was produced by the Willet Distillery.  There’s no age statement but this should be a blend of whiskies aged 4 to 5 years in new heavily charred American White Oak barrels. The Rye's mash bill is 75% rye and 25% corn. I get a grassy nose and comes off a bit musty. The nose finishes with a gingerbread sweetness. The taste here is leather, pepper and a tangy spiciness. The finish is pretty quick for me with more smoke, pecan and a touch of spearmint. At $70 a bottle, I'd wait to try this at friends or restaurant before making the investment.
