Black Men: Do I Need Therapy?

from Mental Dialogue

In the AFRICAN AMERICAN community SUICIDE is stigmatized as something WHITE PEOPLE do, but in recent years SUICIDE rates have increased among BLACK MEN, and especially BLACK YOUTH.  Our special guest and mental health therapist, DR. J PARKER GRIFFIN JR, along with special guest co-host criminal defense attorney and youth advocate ASHLEY JOHNSON-ALFORD drop by to discuss the various stressors BLACK MEN & BLACK YOUTH face and the need for therapy. We ask DR. GRIFFIN what are the key indicators for seeking therapy and what are realistic expectations for therapy.  We ask Attorney JOHNSON-ALFORD what impact does she think therapy for BLACK MEN & BLACK YOUTH would have on the CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM?  What about the cost of therapy?  How rampant is unresolved MENTAL ILLNESS in the BLACK COMMUNITY? Are there enough AFRICAN AMERICAN providers in the mental health field to truly meet the need? MENTAL DIALOGUE asking the questions America's afraid to ask. ALL I ASK IS THAT YOU THINK
