Located in the oldest continuously populated colonial town in the western region of North Carolina sits Beta Mu Lambda, the 155th House of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. This chapter has served Iredell, Rowan and Cabarrus counties by organizing holiday turkey giveaways, participating in school supply drives, and “Adopt a Family '' programs which provide clothes and toys to families in need. As part of the Alpha Phi Alpha nationwide “A Voteless People is a Hopeless People” initiative, Beta Mu Lambda created “Party at the Polls” events to provide voter education and registration in their local community. The fraternity initially served as a study and support group for minority students who faced racial prejudice, both educationally and socially, at Cornell.
