Black Truth (3/11/24)

A recent Nature publication has caused alarm in the scientific community by documenting the 10,000 peer-reviewed papers pulled in the last year alone for fraud, integrity issues, and incoherent writing. And that is only what researchers found thus far. But this doesn’t mean we should dismiss “science.” Instead we should be weary of scientists and their backers. The fallacy at play here otherwise is a “false dilemma” by which it is believed there are only two possible ways to examine an issue. We can also call this the BLACK TRUTH of which there are many examples: “America is a free country” but that doesn’t mean you can steal and kill, because these actions strip the rights of others. Instead, it means that you can worship how you wish and criticize the government, at least in theory. “You have to follow the law” but only if the law is just, despite the consequences otherwise. “People should treat me with respect” but only if you act in a similar manner; this civil treatment doesn’t give one the right to obtain respect while causing harm. “I don’t believe in violence” should only apply to your moral behavior and not to a situation in which you are being abused or violated. To “turn the other cheek” means that you don’t let pettiness consume you.
