Black Wall Street Was Worth Over a BILLION DOLLARS. What happened? | 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Revisited (2020)

from Money, Business and Books with tha homies · host Literacy Kings

EPISODE OVERVIEW  In season 3 we covered "Black Wall Street: From Riot to Renaissance in Tulsa's Historic Greenwood District" by Hannibal B. Johnson "Early in the twentieth century, the black community in Tulsa- the "Greenwood District"- became a nationally renowned entrepreneurial center. Frequently referred to as "The Black Wall Street of America," the Greenwood District attracted pioneers from all over America who sought new opportunities and fresh challenges. Legal segregation forced blacks to do business among themselves. The Greenwood district prospered as dollars circulated within the black community. But fear and jealousy swelled in the greater Tulsa community. The alleged assault of a white woman by a black man triggered unprecedented civil unrest. The worst riot in American history, the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 destroyed people, property, hopes, and dreams. Hundreds of people died or were injured. Property damage ran into the millions. The Greenwood District burned to the ground. Ever courageous, the Greenwood District pioneers rebuilt and better than ever. By 1942, some 242 businesses called the Greenwood district home. Having experienced a decline in the '60s, '70s, and early '80s, the area is now poised for yet another renaissance. Black Wall Street speaks to the triumph of the human spirit."  🔐 Join our Patreon community to get early access, exclusive content, merch, and become a part of our private community!  👉 https://www.patreon.com/LiteracyKings  CashApp: https://cash.app/$literacykings  Our Bitcoin Address: 3Km6ecG4bfrEtBN3PSARrdx3c9dAx6i4Pd  🎙 Listen to FREE Audiobooks http://www.audibletrial.com/LiteracyKings  📚 Books we're Reading and Recommend: https://www.amazon.com/shop/coreypaulmusic  💦 New Literacy Kings Merch https://literacykings.bigcartel.com  💸 INVESTING 💸  📊 Learn & Invest with Robinhood App: https://rebrand.ly/RobinhoodApp  💰 Save and Invest with Stash App: https://rebrand.ly/StashApp  💵 Bitcoin, Crypto, & Stocks on CashApp: https://rebrand.ly/GetCashApp  🏧 Greenwood Bank (Black Owned): https://rebrand.ly/bankgreenwood  📣 DISTRIBUTION (Get YOUR show/music on Apple, Spotify, and MORE!)  Podcast: https://anchor.fm  Music (Tunecore): http://fbuy.me/v/coreypaulmusic_1 20% OFF YOUR FIRST SINGLE OR ALBUM  Music (Distro Kid): https://distrokid.com/vip/seven/1005102 7% OFF DISCOUNT  Thoughts, questions, or comments?
