Today on America in the MorningBlanche On The Hot Seat Much like his predecessor Pam Bondi, Acting-Attorney General Todd Blanche got it, and gave it right back, during his day before the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday as he seeks confirmation to be the permanent A-G.  The details from correspondent Rich Johnson.   Previewing President Trump’s National Address President Trump will address the nation tonight, and is expected to focus on elections in America.   Rescue Turns To Recovery In San Francisco The search and rescue operation in the waters near Alcatraz Island is now turning into a recovery mode.  Correspondent Jennifer King reports that searchers remain in San Francisco Bay where a boat sank Tuesday, killing one person and three people went missing.   Reflecting Pool’s New Issue The Reflecting Pool next to the Lincoln Memorial has now been drained as it undergoes repairs, but a new problem has emerged.  Correspondent Haya Panjwani reports that the blue paint used to coat the bottom of the basin has now changed color.   Trump OK’s ICE Traffic Stops President Trump says he wants Immigration officers to keep pulling over vehicles, signaling his opposition Wednesday to plans announced just a day earlier to suspend most traffic stops following the shooting deaths of two people in one week.    New $1 Coin A coin featuring President Trump will be available starting in the fall.  Ed Donahue reports on the new currency being minted to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.   Clayton On The Hot Seat As Acting-Attorney General Todd Blanche sat in a hearing for his nomination, the person President Trump has chosen to become the Director of National Intelligence also sat before senators on Wednesday, but Jay Clayton’s meeting with Democrats was focused more on election denying and journalist subpoenas.  Ed Donahue reports that Clayton was given one question over and over again – who was the winner of the 2020 election.   Latest In The Middle East On a day when a new poll released by The Economist showed nearly half of Americans believe the war with Iran could stretch for a year or more, the U.S. has re-imposed a blockade on Iranian ports after Tehran's attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.  As correspondent Jon Gambrell reports, President Trump is considering further military action against Iran, including on energy targets, unless they return to peace talks.   Canada Wildfires Impacting The US From the Upper Midwest to New York City and Washington, DC, air quality is now a serious concern due to wildfires raging in parts of Canada, with heavy smoke prompting evacuations in Minnesota, and air issues are impacting millions in America.  Correspondent Julie Walker reports a train crew in Ontario feared for their lives as flames rapidly surrounded their train.   Democrats Lead Vote To Block Israel Aid More than 100 House Democrats voted to block billions of dollars in military aid to Israel.  Finally   It’s been a very rough week for the Paramount and Warner Brothers merger, and now the newest issues include a shareholder lawsuit, and a new judge being named in the state Attorneys General Antitrust lawsuit.  Entertainment reporter Kevin Carr has details.   Learn more about your ad choices.
