Then her new husband nearly died from arsenic poisoning. In 1989, just days after Blanche married the Reverend Dwight Moore, he became violently ill. Tests revealed extraordinarily high levels of arsenic in his system. He survived—but investigators began looking backward at the people who had previously been close to Blanche. That scrutiny led them to her former boyfriend and coworker, Raymond Reid, who had died in 1986 after a prolonged, mysterious illness. His body was exhumed, and investigators discovered arsenic in his remains. Blanche was charged with Reid’s murder. Prosecutors argued that she had poisoned him over time, allegedly serving him arsenic-laced food while he became increasingly sick. In 1990, Blanche Taylor Moore was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. But Raymond Reid was not the only suspicious death surrounding her.
