Today I saw a picture of a blanket being used for two purposes - to cover the ground for a picnic and as a cover when sleeping in a bed. This reminds me that God's Word both protects and comforts, amongst other benefits. The Bible is an amazing instruction manual to mankind from its creator. Often one simple verse, declaring God's Truth, encourages us, helps us make a decision, gives us strength and comfort to withstand an inevitable situation. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us: "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work". God already sees us as righteousness, without sin, because of Jesus. However, we are we are now learning to move away from our sinful ways to God's ways. God is gentle in this, guiding us to repentance, so we don't need to have guilt and shame. Focusing on guilt and shame grows roots towards wrong thinking and wrong actions. That is why King David declared, "Direct my footsteps according to your Word. Let no sin rule over me" (Psalm 119:133). Don't take my word for it, take God's Word.
