Blaze Street Music presents - Music of A Lifetime - Ep.2 - 'Risque' & the music of Chic

ALOHA! PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING 👍🏾 I APPRECIATE YOU!The year is 1979 and on 12 July, there was an event held at Comiskey Park in Chicago, Illinois where 'disco' was declared dead!' Local radio DJ Steve Dahl sponsored an event during the baseball game between the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers where fans coming to the game were admitted for 98 cents but they had to bring copy of a 'disco' record, because Dahl had planned to burn or 'explode' as many 'disco' records as possible during the 7th inning stretch. It was well known that DJ Steve Dahl pretty much hated 'disco' music, or anything that was popularized as 'urban' or 'black' music. He made no bones about what he wanted on the radio, and that was Rock N' Roll music, or predominately white music. If you dont agree with me, then consider that most of fans that night, were white, and nearly ALL of the records that were turned in were from black artists. Fact is, the event turned into a near riot. Once Dahl lit the fuse and began exploding the records that had been tossed into a giant container located out on the field, hundreds of crazed fans seized the opportunity and ran onto field. It was a disaster of a public relations event and an embarassment to Chicago. While it may be true that in 1979, disco music was on the down spin on the radio waves, it was  exploding in the clubs. And Chic was right there. Since 1976, Nile Rogers, Bernard Edwards and Chic, had already recorded at least two high profile records that were in major rotation in high level clubs from New York to Philly to Chicago and Detroit. The Chic sound would eventually hit the stratosphere on 30 July 1979, when 'Risque' was released, and the song that launched them into the universe was the phenomenal 'Good Times'. Nile Rogers would go on to produce such superstars as Diana Ross, David Bowie, Madonna, and with Bernard Edwards, they brought the world one of the best wedding and party songs with Sister Sledge and 'We Are Family.'
