BLAZE STREET MUSIC PRESENTS MUSIC OF A LIFETIME - EPISODE #10 - FEAT. CLASSIC ROCK OF THE 70S' & FLEETWOOD MAC
from Blaze Street Music Presents 'Music of a Lifetime' · host Various Artists
ALOHA! PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING 👍🏾 I APPRECIATE YOU!There seems to be a resurgence of the music from 'back in tha day', or music from the past. Lots of TV commercials and even in some of the popular movies of today (and recently) have been playing lots of great music from the 80's, and 70's. Generations today may or may not know this music because in the age of Shazam, Google and AI, you can pretty much find out anything! But I've been listening and for me, it presented an excellent opportunity to dig into my crates and go back to the music that I grew up with. And you know me, my podcast is ALL ABOUT the music from those times. Growing up during the 1970's in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina in Winston-Salem also known as the 'Camel City' or the 'Twin Cities', the music of the radio stations around me were very well programmed and abundant with the music that was popular in America during those times. Sure, as a young black kid, the soul music of my family was the foundation I grew up on. But it was because of my family, especially my father who was a musician and songwriter in a popular R&B in our hometown, he was the one who schooled me to the true value of music, the value and meaning of what it was and is for me. He always said, "son, you have to open your mind and your ears and LISTEN....because music is so much more than one sound or one kind of what you like. It's way more than that." I really didn't have too much of a choice because the "black" radio station was an AM station and it went off the air at night, right at sunset. What did I listen to at night? Well, there were two more stations, FM stations and they stayed on 24 hours: WTOP in Winston-Salem, and WQMG, located about 25 minutes away in Greensboro, NC. WTOP was the main 'top 40' and rock station in Winston and of course, the playlist contained all of the hits. WQMG was another primarily black station (or 'urban', whatever you may want to call it), but the thing was, QMG also played classic rock. QMG also played jazz, jazz fusion and all kinds of great stuff. My love of classic rock came from these 3 stations playing all of this great music growing up! Lots and lots of Friday nights my parents would let me stay up late (because there was no school on the weekend!) and let me tell you what I would do: I'd listen to my Daddy's stereo...I'd play his records and listen to the radio. WOW!! so much FUN!! These are memories that will last with me forever! My friends and I would go down to the video arcade to play games and while there, we'd throw some coins in the music jukebox and listen to alllll of these songs I'm playing for you here. So come on! Come with me on this journey as I salute the classic rock of the 1970's that I grew up with. THANKS FOR LISTENING! I APPRECIATE YOU ALL!
