BLAZE STREET MUSIC PRESENTS - MUSIC OF A LIFETIME EPISODE #19 - AIN'T WE FUNKIN NOW! MUSIC OF THE BROTHERS JOHNSON

from Blaze Street Music Presents 'Music of a Lifetime' · host Various Artists

ALOHA! PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING 👍🏾 I APPRECIATE YOU! The Brothers Johnson were an American funk and R&B band consisting of the American brothers George ("Lightnin' Licks") and Louis E. Johnson ("Thunder Thumbs"). Quincy Jones hired them to play on his LP Mellow Madness, and recorded four of their songs, including "Is It Love That We're Missing?" and "Just a Taste of Me"The music of the Brothers Johnson has been with me since I was a teenager. Because I loved watching Soul Train so much, I was always in front of the tube just see some of my favorite artists and of course, to see all of the great dancers who got down on Soul Train. I remember seeing Quincy Jones come on, and he said this song that I found out later was with these cats called “The Brothers Johnson. It was their song “Strawberry Letter 23”, which was actually a remake of song originally written and recorded by Shuggie Otis in 1971, this was the song that got our attention in the hood. The Brothers Johnson version was an absolute hit in the hood and was played all the time on the radio station WAAA and WQMG. I continued to follow their career and listening to the music and also, it’s very important to point out the George and Louis Johnson began their career’s with Quincy Jones, as he’d hired them to perform on 1975’s “Mellow Madness” but later one, they’d get hired to play in many, many sessions with him and other artists and their careers as session musicians grew. Tragically, Louis “Thunder Thumbs” Johnson passed away suddenly in 2015. To me the legacy of the Brothers Johnson continues and I’ll always be playing their music in my classic R&B, Ol Skool and Jazz setts. Playlist: “You Keep Me coming back” ““Aint we Funkin Now” “Get The Funk Out my Face” “In the Way” "I'll Be Good to You" “Land of Ladies” “Q” "Strawberry Letter 23" “Runnin for Your Lovin” “Is it Love that We’re Missing” THANKS FOR LISTENING!
