Blizzard Warning | Maine Weather 6 AM

from The Maine Weather Podcast

Good morning! I'm DJ Huzz. And welcome to the Maine Weather Podcast. It's Monday, February 23rd. Folks, a nor'easter is hammering us right now.. And this one means business. If you don't have to drive today, don't. Seriously. Stay put. The coast is taking the worst of it. Downeast and Midcoast, you're ground zero. Eight to twelve inches of snow with gusts hitting 50 miles an hour. Blizzard warnings are up. Whiteout conditions this afternoon. You're not seeing the road, period. Down around Portland, 4 to 8 inches pile up with those same 50 mile an hour gusts. Travel is dangerous. Tonight the snow tapers, but blowing snow sticks around. Tuesday morning you wake up to 12 degrees. That wind makes it feel brutal. Push inland to Augusta and Waterville. Three to five inches with gusts to 45 miles an hour. Tonight drops to 7 degrees. Wind chills near minus 10. Tuesday brings sunshine and 30 degrees. You'll want that after today. Up in Bangor, 4 to 6 inches and gusts to 45. Tonight.. 1 degree. One. Wind chills plunge to minus 15. Your pipes are begging you to drip those faucets. The western mountains stay lighter on snow, just 1 to 3 inches. But tonight hits minus 3 with wind chills near minus 20. That's frostbite in minutes territory. And up in The County, 2 to 4 inches with gusts to 30. Tonight settles at 12 degrees. Quick note for coastal listeners. High tide in Portland hits 3:18 P.M. Watch for minor flooding and beach erosion. Sunrise was 6:29 A.M. Sunset at 5:22 P.M. We're gaining almost 3 minutes of daylight. Small victories. The week ahead tells a story. Tuesday gives us a breather. Wednesday a clipper drops another 1 to 3 inches. Friday? We're watching another potential storm. Rain, snow, or a messy mix. Details are fuzzy. The weekend finally calms down. Upper 30s, maybe low 40s. Charge your phones. Fill the gas tank. Keep the flashlights close tonight. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
