Blizzard Warning | New York Weather 6 AM

from The New York Weather Podcast

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the New York Weather Podcast. It's Monday, February 23rd.. And folks, this is the big one. The Blizzard of 2026 is here. Right now, snow is falling at two to three inches per hour. We've already picked up nearly five inches. And we're nowhere close to done. Blizzard warnings are up across the city, Long Island. And the Hudson Valley. This storm is life threatening. Whiteout conditions. Hurricane force gusts. Coastal flooding. Stay inside if you possibly can. Let me walk you through what's happening. New York City is getting absolutely buried. Heavy snow and blowing snow continue through 6 PM. You're looking at another 10 to 14 inches on top of what's already down. Winds are gusting to 48 miles an hour. Visibility drops to near zero at times. Tonight's low hits 25 degrees, with wind chills around 14 degrees by 4 AM. Tomorrow finally brings sun and a high near 31 degrees. Push north to Albany. A winter weather advisory runs until 7 PM. Another 2 to 4 inches falls today with gusts to 35 miles an hour. Tonight plummets to 13 degrees. Wind chills near 11 degrees. Tomorrow? Sunny but only 24 degrees. Out in Buffalo, you're catching the lighter side. Snow showers through early Tuesday drop maybe an inch or two. Winds stay around 12 miles an hour. Tonight's low is 11 degrees. Syracuse is similar. Light snow, 1 to 3 inches, lows near 13 degrees. Here's what the rest of the week looks like. Tuesday gives us a breather. Sunny skies, highs in the low 30s. Wednesday a warm front sneaks in with light snow and highs climbing into the 40s. Thursday gets tricky. Another system could bring rain, snow, or both. By Friday into the weekend, we finally dry out. Highs push into the mid 40s by Saturday. Power outages are likely tonight. Charge your phones now. Fill some water bottles. If you're shoveling, take breaks. This snow is heavy enough to hurt you. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care, folks.
