Blizzard Warning | New York Weather 6 PM
from The New York Weather Podcast
Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. And this is the New York Weather Podcast for Monday, February 23rd. That storm? It finally ran out of gas.. But not before dumping nearly 8 inches on the city. The snow's done falling in the metro. The wind isn't done howling. Gusts up to 41 miles an hour are still ripping through the five boroughs and Long Island. Blowing snow, reduced visibility, the whole deal. Those gusts stick around through the evening, especially near the water. Tonight's the sneaky part. Temperatures slide to 25 degrees by 7 AM. Black ice will coat untreated roads and sidewalks. If you're heading out early, take it slow. Now push north on the Thruway toward Albany. You're catching the tail end of this system. Light snow fizzles out this evening. Then the bottom drops out. Lows plunge to 13 degrees, a full 20 degrees colder than this afternoon. Wind chills hit a brutal 11 degree by 8 AM. Tomorrow brings sunshine and 24 degrees, but another round of snow sneaks in Tuesday night. One to 2 inches by Wednesday morning. Out in Western New York, the snow machine keeps cranking. Buffalo and the Chautauqua Ridge pick up another 1 to 3 inches tonight. Winds gusting to 20 miles an hour mean drifting and low visibility. Lows drop to 11 degrees. Wind chills near minus 11 degrees. Tuesday's high? A measly 27 degrees. That's 10 degrees below normal for late February. Over in Central New York, light snow tapers off overnight. Lows fall to 12 degrees with wind chills near zero. Tuesday only hits 22 degrees. Snow showers return by afternoon. Tuesday's a breather statewide. Sunshine, but cold. Then Wednesday a clipper drops 1 to 3 inches, heaviest in the Adirondacks and Catskills. Thursday finally warms into the upper 30s. A possible storm brushes the city Thursday night into Friday. Still uncertain. By Saturday, highs touch 40 degrees in the city. Sunday pulls us back to the 30s. Folks, keep those shovels by the door. You'll want them again before the week's out. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
