Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. Welcome to the New York Weather Podcast for Monday, February 23rd. Folks, if you looked out your window this morning and thought you were dreaming.. You weren't. Over seven inches of fresh snow in the last 24 hours. And it's not done yet. The city is getting hammered. Heavy snow and blowing snow keep pounding through 6 P.M. Snowfall rates peak around 11 A.M. We're talking another 10 to 14 inches on top of what's already down. North winds are screaming at 23 to 33 miles an hour. Gusts to 48 miles an hour. That's whiteout territory. You'll hit a high near 35 degrees around 4 P.M., but wind chills make it feel like 14. Tonight, a slight chance of light snow before 7 P.M. Lows settle near 25 degrees. Drive north to the Capital Region and the storm loosens its grip. Snow and blowing snow taper off by 3 P.M. Another 1 to 3 inches possible. Highs around 31 degrees. Wind chills drop to 13 tonight. Lows bottom out at 13 degrees. Out in Western New York, lake effect is doing its thing. Snow rolls through 4 A.M. Tuesday. Another inch or two. Highs only reach 29 degrees around 11 A.M. Winds shift northwest around 1 P.M., gusting to 16 miles an hour. Lows tonight.. A bitter 11 degrees. Central New York catches lighter snow through 6 A.M. Tuesday. Highs hit 31 degrees by 4 P.M. Wind chills near 13 tonight. Lows at 13 degrees. Now here's where it gets interesting. Tuesday brings sunshine and shoveling. Then a clipper sneaks in Tuesday night with light snow. Wednesday.. Temperatures jump into the 40s. You read that right. A warm front brings a snow and rain mix. Thursday, another system rolls through with more wintry mix. Friday dries out mostly. And Saturday? Mid 40s with sunshine. Light at the end of the tunnel. Keep those shovels by the door. You're going to need them more than once this week. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
