Blizzard Warning | Rhode Island Weather 6 PM

from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast

Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. Welcome to the Rhode Island Weather Podcast for Monday, February 23rd. Folks, this blizzard means business. Over eight inches of snow in the last 24 hours. And it's not done yet. You're sitting at 28 degrees right now with moderate snow still falling. We're under a Blizzard Warning until 7 A.M. Tuesday. The worst punch has landed. But the storm's still swinging. Heavy snow bands are rolling through. And the wind.. The wind is something else. Along Narragansett Bay, gusts are hitting 40 miles an hour. Providence is catching 37. Visibility is dropping below a quarter mile at times. That's white knuckle driving. Actually, that's don't drive at all territory. Snow tapers off around 7 P.M. Tonight. The wind sticks around though, shifting northwest. You'll want to keep those curtains drawn tight. Another one to three inches could sneak in before this thing finally wraps up. Tonight's lows hit 20 degrees in Providence. Near the Bay, 22 degrees. But step outside and you're feeling 11 degrees in the city. Ten degrees along the coast. That's the kind of cold that finds every zipper gap in your jacket. Tomorrow.. Finally.. Sunshine. Mostly sunny skies with highs near 30 degrees statewide. Grab a shovel and enjoy the quiet. Because here's the plot twist. Wednesday brings another round of snow. Then mixed precipitation Thursday and Friday. This week is a weather obstacle course. The silver lining? Saturday warms to 44 degrees. Almost feels tropical after what we just survived. If your power's still on, consider yourself lucky tonight. Charge everything. Fill a thermos. Keep the flashlights close. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
