Indictment here https://tinyurl.com/yruf2kxw 😱 The indictment claims the brothers, using their advanced computer science and math skills, manipulated Ethereum’s transaction process to access and alter pending transactions. They planned the scheme over several months, learning victim trading behaviours and setting up ways to hide their identities and the stolen funds. After executing the exploit, they used various methods to launder the money, including shell companies and foreign exchanges. This took place in the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s Fintech Supervisory Sandbox. A Mox Bank client deposited funds and requested to buy a carbon credit. SCBHK tokenized the carbon credit through Libeara, and MTN enabled a real-time swap of the tokenized assets across different blockchains. Now, UK police and the National Crime Agency (NCA) can confiscate crypto assets and related physical items like flash drives and written passwords from those suspected of criminal activity.
