Blood and Gold: The Rise and Fall of Liu Han
from Matter of Fact: A play on "matter" (physics) and "facts" (news). · host Larry White
Liu Han rose from a small-time trader to become the head of the Hanlong Group, building a 40 billion RMB empire through a combination of aggressive business tactics, organized crime, and deep-seated political corruption. He maintained a dual identity as a celebrated philanthropist who built earthquake-resistant schools while secretly using a private militia to commit murders and intimidate rivals, all while being shielded by high-ranking officials such as Zhou Yongkang. The collapse of his political "protective umbrellas" eventually led to his arrest in 2013 and his execution in 2015, following a high-profile trial that exposed his involvement in at least nine murders and numerous other felonies.
