Tracey Panek. In this episode, we speak with someone who has a job that most of us could only dream of: Tracey Panek, Levi Strauss & Co.’s historian. Listen to Tracey share how one of the best parts of the job are the myriad stories she discovers and hears daily and that she reveals from an old pair of jeans.Tracey Panek is the Historian for Levi Strauss & Co. Joining the company in June 2014, she manages the day-to-day workings of the Levi Strauss & Co. Archives as a key corporate asset, answering historical questions, assisting designers, brand managers, executives and other employees whose work requires historical materials in the Archives. Prior to joining LS&Co., Tracey spent 14 years as Historian and Archivist at AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah where she managed a corporate history program for the 100+ year old company. She began her corporate history career at AirTouch Communications—today Verizon and Vodafone—a San Francisco based company that launched cellular service at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.Michael Kininmonth has spent the whole of his 45 years working life in textiles. He trained at University of Bolton in the UK. He has had a wide and varied career spanning fiber spinning through to garment production, woven and knits through to non-woven composites, apparel fabrics through to medical textiles. He joined the then only UK-based denim mill, Smith & Nephew, back in 1974. He is widely travelled and is the holder of several textile patents. He joined Courtaulds just after the launch of TENCEL™, and still has the scars to prove it. He is now employed by Lenzing Fibers as Business Development Manager. His currently responsibilities are split between sustainability and denim projects.
