Bob Carpenter - United Craftsmen Children's Shoe Drive

from Lure of the Lake

I am so proud of the many guests on the show who, not only want to change the world, but they actually do it! Today's guest is no exception. His organization does remarkable work with the most vulnerable and innocent, children, many whom have no home, no family and very little hope. They have been disappointed by most adults and too many of them don't look forward to the future. Bob Carpenter, who is a plumber by trade, now travels the country working professionally with associations, businesses, organizations and agencies, on codes & standards of plumbing specifications in commercial buildings. But his passion is his non-profit organization, United Craftsmen Children's Shoe Drive, Inc. You will never have a conversation with Bob without talking about it and the good work they provide. We'll talk about its humble beginnings and how it has now grown to multiple states, many supporters and volunteers. At its core, this organization takes children living in children's homes and impoverished conditions on a shopping day for new shoes. This is an experience most of us simply take for granted, but for these kids, it is often the first time they have had a new pair of shoes in their entire life! What started as a small project, to help a handful of kids, by a young man named Tracy Newsome in 2005, has grown to include several states and serves so many kids. The stories will warm your heart and break it, at the same time. Bob will tell us what the organization is currently working on, some of their future plans and what the local community can do to help the mission.
